Phrasal Verbs with “Out”

Aquí estamos otra vez, con nuevos ejemplos de phrasal verbs!

Hay muchos phrasal verbs bastante comunes que usan la partícula “out.” Muchas veces hablan de un movimiento hacia fuera, de sacar algo, o de excluir.

take something/someone out = sacar

I’ll take you out for a drink on Saturday if you have time.

Could you take the ham out of the fridge so I can make a sandwich?

run out of something = acabar/terminar/agotar algo

We ran out of coffee this morning. Can you buy some more?

He travelled until he ran out of money, then he came home.

be out of something = estar sin algo

We’re out of time.

I’m sorry, we’re out of pasta. Would you like rice?

go out = salir (en plan romántico, o de fiesta)

They’ve been going out for over a year.

On Friday we’re going out to a party, it should be fun.

stand out = destacarse

You’ll see her immediately, she really stands out because she’s so tall.

He stood out as one of the best students at his university.

pick something out = elegir

I picked out a shirt I liked and I bought it.

It’s difficult to pick out a film to watch, there are so many options.

work out (1) = hacer deporte

She works out three times a week. 

I’m going to the gym to work out.

work out (2) = solucionar

I tried for days, but I couldn’t work out a solution to the problem.

She managed to work everything out with her boyfriend, and didn’t have to break up with him.

eat out = comer fuera

He always eats out during the week, he doesn’t have time to come home.

Should we stay in or eat out this evening?
