Incluso más verb patterns

Existen muchos tipos de verb patterns. Hoy veremos unos que aceptan tanto un gerundio como un infinitivo con “to,” cambiando el significado dependiendo del caso.
Un buen ejemplo es stop doing something (dejar de hacer algo) vs stop to do something (pararse para hacer algo).

He stopped smoking because he wanted to improve his health.

He stopped to smoke before going into the airport.

En la primera frase, el señor ya no fuma, dejó de hacerlo. En la segunda frase, se paró para fumarse un cigarillo. La diferencia en español es mucho más claro que en inglés.

I stopped eating chocolate years ago. I heard it was addictive. 

I stopped to eat some chocolate before getting back to work. 

She stopped listening to her husband years ago.

She stopped to listen, and in the distance she heard the sound of thunder. 

They stopped watching that series after the second season.

They stopped to watch the cat cross the street.
