Anónimo preguntó: Saludos desde Colombia. Escribo porque me gustaría aclarar una duda. Hace poco vi en un libro la siguiente oración: "I have my children do their homework before dinner, but I can't get them to eat all the vegetables". Me gustaria saber el significado de esas oraciones. Creo que es algo así: "Yo hago que mis hijos realizen sus deberes antes de cenar, pero no puedo conseguir que coman todos los vegetales". Otra cuestion, ¿Por qué se usa "to" solo en una de las frases?. Gracias profesor Daniel.

Your question is a very good one. I would say that your translation is good… Have someone do something = hacer que alguien haga algo. Get someone to do something = conseguir que alguien haga algo. 

La palabra to que aparece en una frase y no en la otra sería cuestion de los verb patterns, pero son unos más complicados que nunca he tocado.

Have somebody do something

I had the barber leave my hair long in the back.

I had my secretary cancel all my appointments. 

I’ll have the housekeeper take care of that.

Get somebody to do something

She got her daughter to clean her room, but couldn’t get her to go to bed before 11.

We got the mechanic to fix the breaks, but we couldn’t get him to fix the A/C.

They’re going to get Pablo to drive them to the airport.
