Be and get used to

Aquí estamos, de vuelta, con mas usos de las palabras “used to” y otras parecidas. La primera entrada sobre used to se encuentra aquí.

Algunos alumnos míos hacen el error de decir “used to” en vez de “usually.”

I used to eat sardines every Friday. (Una frase que habla de un hábito pasado, algo que ya no haces.)

I usually eat sardines ever Friday. (Algo que pasa regularmente en la actualidad.)

I used to take the bus everywhere. (Pero ya no.)

I usually take the bus everwhere. (Todavía.)

Otro tema es to be used to o to get used to. 

To be used to something se traduce como estar acostumbrado a algo. To get used to something sería acostumbrarse.

Now I’m used to the long winters in Madrid. 

(Estoy acostumbrado a los largos inviernos en Madrid.)

It took me a few years to get used to the long winters in Madrid.

(Tardé unos años en acostumbrarme a los largos inviernos en Madrid.)

He’s used to working on Saturdays. 

You’ll just have to get used to how he talks. He’s a little bit strange.

She’s just started speaking in public, and she’s not used to all the attention.
