Más verb patterns, más ejemplos

Como hemos visto antes, en inglés tenemos que decidir entre usar el infinitivo (con o sin “to”) o el gerundio cuando tenemos dos verbos juntos. Eso pasa igual en presnte o pasado, perfecto o simple, afirmación, negación o pregunta (siempre que los verbos permiten otros tiempos verbales.) Eso se llama verb patterns, aquí tenemos la introducción.)

Más ejemplos:

want + to + infinitivo

I have always wanted to go to Madagascar. (presente perfecto)

How long have you wanted to be a dentist? (presente perfecto, pregunta)

She hasn’t wanted to play basketball recently. (presente perfecto, negativo)

 can + infinitivo 

She can play the piano and the trumpet.

She can’t drive.

Can you help me? 

(El pasado de can es could. Can no se utiliza en otros tiempos.)

like + gerund

He likes baking cakes, but he doesn’t like making bread. (presente simple)

I have never liked driving. (presente perfecto, negativo)

Have you always liked rap music? (presente perfecto, pregunta) 

Tiempos verbales mixtos:

When I was younger, I preferred to live in the country, but now I prefer to live in the city. 

She has always liked Japanese culture, soon she will learn the language.

She doesn’t enjoy watching TV, but she is enjoying watching this series.
