Aprende un phrasal verb: take over

Hola! Aquí estamos con el phrasal verb de hoy: take over.

Take over significa tomar la responsibilidad o el control de algo (un gobierno, una empresa o simplemente una actividad).

When the conservatives took over the government, they changed a lot of the economic policies. 

I’ve been driving for a few hours and I’m pretty tired. Do you want to take over?

Donald took over the family business when his father died. 

A veces, especialmente cuando se trata del control empresas, se usa takeover como sustantivo.

After the takeover in 1998, the company’s stock prices went up dramatically. 

También tenemos el verbo overtake, que significa adelantar o superar. Se conjuga como el verbo irregular take: overtake-overtook-overtaken.

Near the end of the race he was overtaken by another runner, and eventually came in second.
