Aprende un phrasal verb: stand up

Stand up es un phrasal verb que probablemente ya conoces, y que además tiene la partícula up que habla de la dirección del movimiento. Este tipo de phrasal verb es bastante sencilla. 

stand up = levantarse (ir de estar sentado a estar de píe, concretamente)

In Korea, students stand up and bow when the teacher enters the classroom.

She stood up and walked out the door.

De todos modos, stand up tiene otros significados:

stand up for something = defender una idea, o defenderse

You really should stand up for yourself. Don’t let her insult you like that!

My grandfather was a man who always stood up for what he believed in.

stand someone up = dejar a alguien plantado (no aparecer a la hora convenida para una cita)

I’m not going to ask her out again, last time she stood me up!
